Being the main protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki was always destined for greatness in Bleach. However, only a few realized just how much of a threat he was to Yhwach. From the moment Yhwach set his plans in motion, he saw Ichigo as a major obstacle. Unlike the other Soul Reapers, Ichigo was a mix of multiple powerful bloodlines, making him the ultimate wildcard in the war.
But Yhwach’s fear of Ichigo wasn’t just about his raw strength. It was way more than that. He was the only one who could truly challenge Yhwach’s vision of complete domination. From the very start, Yhwach understood that Ichigo’s existence alone could be the key to his downfall.
Ichigo’s Unique Bloodline Made Him Unpredictable
One of the biggest reasons Yhwach feared Ichigo was his unique heritage. Unlike any other warrior in Bleach, Ichigo had a mix of Soul Reaper, Quincy, Hollow, and Fullbringer powers. Each of these came from a different side of his lineage, making him unpredictable in battle.
Yhwach, being the father of all Quincy, recognized Ichigo’s Quincy blood as a direct link to himself. However, Ichigo’s Hollow side was something completely opposite to his Quincy abilities, making him an anomaly. Quincies were weak against Hollows, yet Ichigo had both inside him, making him a major threat to Yhwach’s carefully laid plans.
His existence challenged the natural order that Yhwach sought to control. This was proven when Ichigo first activated his Hollow mask against Byakuya Kuchiki, instantly overpowering him, something no ordinary Soul Reaper could do.
Additionally, during his battle against Ulquiorra Cifer in Hueco Mundo, Ichigo’s Hollow nature completely took over, allowing him to defeat an opponent who was far stronger than him at the time. This unpredictable evolution made it impossible for Yhwach to accurately gauge Ichigo’s limits.
Ichigo’s Growth Was Faster Than Anyone Else’s In Bleach
Throughout Bleach, Ichigo had one of the fastest growth rates in the series. He went from being a high school student with no knowledge of Soul Reapers to defeating some of the most powerful enemies in history. Yhwach knew that Ichigo’s rapid development was dangerous because it meant there was no telling how powerful he could become.

Most Soul Reapers train for centuries to reach captain-level strength, but Ichigo surpassed them in just a few years. Even without formal training, he consistently found ways to push past his limits. His Bankai, Tensa Zangetsu, was achieved in just three days of intense training under Urahara Kisuke, something unheard of in Soul Society history. Similarly, his ability to combine Shinigami and Quincy abilities during his final battle against Yhwach further proved that he was not bound by traditional growth patterns.
Ichigo Wasn’t Bound By Soul Society’s Rules
Another reason Ichigo was a major problem for Yhwach was his freedom. Unlike the Gotei 13 Captains or the Royal Guard, Ichigo wasn’t bound by Soul Society’s laws or traditions. He wasn’t part of any structured military force, meaning he had no obligation to follow orders or play by the same rules as others.
This independence made Ichigo a completely unpredictable warrior. Yhwach thrived on controlling everything, from the Sternritter to the balance of life and death itself. But Ichigo couldn’t be controlled, and that made him incredibly dangerous. No matter what Yhwach planned, Ichigo always found a way to disrupt it in ways no one else could.
For example, when the Soul Society hesitated to act during Aizen’s rebellion, Ichigo took matters into his own hands and stopped Aizen using his Final Getsuga Tenshō. Similarly, when Yhwach absorbed the Soul King and seemed unstoppable, Ichigo found a way to discover his weakness.
Final Verdict: Only Ichigo Had The Potential To Stop Yhwach
Yhwach’s fear of Ichigo was truly justified. His mixed bloodline, rapid growth, and independence made him an uncontrollable force in the battle between Soul Society and the Quincy.
No matter how powerful Yhwach became, or what sinister plans he came up with, Ichigo always interrupted and made sure his friends and the world of Bleach did not have to bow before the Quincy king.
