Imagine a swordsman so powerful that demons trembled at his name. A man whose blade moved faster than eyes could follow, leaving trails of fire. This was Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the legendary Demon Slayer who created the Sun Breathing technique, the original and most powerful breathing style in Demon Slayer.
While other slayers mastered derived forms like Water or Flame Breathing, Yoriichi’s Sun Breathing stood alone, unmatched and undefeated. But how did Yorichi created the Sun Breathing, and why does it remain the ultimate weapon against Muzan Kibutsuji?
How Yoriichi Created The Sun Breathing In Demon Slayer?

Yoriichi was special from birth. His mother saw it first - the infant’s bright red hair, maroon eyes, markings that hinted at his connection to the sun. Unlike his twin brother Michikatsu, who later became Kokushibo, Yoriichi needed no training to awaken his power. As a child, he effortlessly defeated adult swordsmen, his movements were guided by an innate understanding of the Transparent World, a state where he could see muscles, blood flow, and even a demon’s weak points.
But raw talent wasn’t enough. Yoriichi’s true breakthrough came when he realized breathing could channel the sun’s energy into combat. By syncing his lungs, heart, and muscles with rhythmic, scorching breaths, he transformed his body into a living furnace. Each exhale sharpened his blade, while each inhale fueled his strikes. That's how Yoriichi created the Sun Breathing.
The 12 Forms: A Dance Of Destruction

Sun Breathing’s might lies in its 12 forms, each mimicking the sun’s relentless fury. The first form, Dance, is a single, decapitating slash faster than sound. The final form, Flame Sun, engulfs the user in a spiraling inferno that erases Demons from existence. Unlike derivative styles (which simplify Sun Breathing for weaker users), Yoriichi’s original forms demand perfect control over every muscle and breath. One misstep, and the user’s lungs collapse.
The forms also mirror nature’s cycles. Beneficent Radiance (Form 5) mimics sunrise, a low, upward slash that ignites the air. Solar Heat Haze (Form 7) replicates mirages, distorting the blade’s path to confuse foes. This harmony with the natural world is why Sun Breathing can’t be replicated artificially. It’s like the user is praying to the sun itself.
Why Sun Breathing Beats Every Other Style?

Muzan Kibutsuji, the first Demon, feared Sun Breathing for one reason: it’s the only technique that replicates the sun’s lethal power. Every other breathing style (Thunder, Love, even Moon Breathing) is a diluted imitation. When Yoriichi fought Muzan, he didn’t just wound him; he carved 1,500 slices into the Demon King’s body in an instant, leaving scars that burned for centuries. No other slayer came close.
Sun Breathing also counters regeneration. Most Demons heal instantly, but Sun Breathing’s wounds linger, searing cells so they can’t regrow. This is why Tanjiro’s improvised Hinokami Kagura, a crude Sun Breathing variant, could harm enemies like Rui or Akaza. Even a fraction of Yoriichi’s power was enough to shake the Demon hierarchy.
The Tragic Legacy: Why No One Else Could Master It

Yoriichi's greatness was also his curse. He was too perfect, so much that even his brother couldn’t match him. Michikatsu, crushed by jealousy, gave up his humanity and became Kokushibo. The other Slayers couldn’t help but wonder how Yoriichi created Sun Breathing and used it so flawlessly.
Sun Breathing is brutal on the body, burning lungs, bursting veins, and pushing users to their limit. Even Tanjiro bleeds after using a few forms. Only someone with strong blood like the Kamados can survive it. Muzan feared this power so much, he tried to erase every trace of it.
Final Verdict: The Sun’s Undying Flame

Sun Breathing is something that Yoriichi didn’t create; he unlocked it, becoming a vessel for the sun’s wrath against Demons. Its forms are beautiful, deadly, and tragically rare, reserved for those with once-in-a-millennium talent. Yet through Tanjiro, Yoriichi’s fire still burns.
What makes Sun Breathing the strongest isn’t just its power. It’s the hope it represents. Every swing carries Yoriichi’s will, his belief that humanity can defy monsters.
