Why did Douma punch Akaza in Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Arc made the fans all hyped up about the meeting of the Upper Rank Demons. With the death of Gyutaro and Daki in the Entertainment District Arc, Muzan is compelled to summon the Upper Ranks. This was the first time in 113 years that an Upper Rank Demon of the 12 Kizuki had been killed.

Fans get to delve deeper into knowing the 12 Kizuki. We got to witness the presence of the Upper Rank 1, Kokushibo, Upper Rank 4, Hantengu, Upper Rank 5, Upper Rank 2, and 3 as well. We also found out that although all these demons shared a good deal of hatred for Demon Slayers, they were not at all happy about each other's presence either. This was proved when the Akaza punched and slashed open the head of Upper Moon 2, Douma.

Why Akaza Punched Douma?

Why did Akaza punch Douma

As Akaza asked Nakime where Upper Rank 1 was and if he was the one who was killed. Before Nakime could answer him, Douma showed up and put his hand on Akaza's shoulder, remarking that he was worried about his comrades, and he asked Akaza why he was not worried one bit about him.

Then Douma proceeds to compliment Gyokko about his new pot and mentions that he had used the pot that the latter gave him to display the head of a woman in his room. To this, Gyokko says that even though the pot was not meant for that purpose, he was still intrigued. However, Akaza was infuriated, and he proceeded to punch Douma in the face, tearing off the lower half of his face. Well, that's because it was against Akaza's morals to harm women.

Akaza's Past Explored

This would not come as a surprise to Manga readers that Akaza had an extremely tragic past when he was a human. He was raised in the slums and had a sick father. When his father passed away, he was taken in by a martial arts dojo owner named Keizo. Akaza was trained and nurtured by Keizo and became an undisputed martial arts champion. In the meantime, he also found the love of his life, who was Keizo's daughter, Koyuki.

However, his happiness did not last long when Keizo and Koyuki were killed by another dojo leader. All the other 67 dojo members faced Akaza's wrath when he went on to kill all of them. As a result of this sadistic past, it was against Akaza's morals to harm women. Kibutsuji also approved of his morals and allowed him to stand up to his morals. The derogatory remark that Douma made about a woman being a display piece in his room was the major reason why Akaza punched Douma.

Does Akaza Hate His Superiors?

Does Akaza hate his superiors

Akaza's words and actions towards Kokushibo, the Upper Rank 1, suggest that there is certainly a deep-seated animosity between the two Demons. Despite any ambiguity about Akaza's feelings towards Kokushibo, his statement that he would kill him, even if it meant sacrificing his own life, indicates a strong level of hatred towards his fellow Upper Rank.

As for Douma, we have seen the hatred that Akaza has for Douma. One of the reasons is certainly that Douma became a Demon after Akaza but still managed to outrank him in the long run. Hence, jealousy is the main factor in why Akaza hates Douma so much.
