Nichirin swords are specifically designed to fight Demons and are said to be the only weapons capable of killing them. Each Nichirin sword has a unique color that corresponds to the Demon Slayer's personality and fighting style.


The color of the sword also determines its special properties and abilities. For example, the protagonist Tanjiro Kamado's sword is black, which signifies a rare talent for sensing the emotions of others and adapting to different situations.


In addition to their unique colors, Nichirin swords have incredible strength and durability. This makes them capable of withstanding the incredible physical stress of battling Demons, who possess superhuman strength and regenerative abilities.


The Bright Red Sword

A Nichirin sword attains its color depending on its wielder's skill level and fighting style. There are several colors that the blade can change into when first wielded. However, the blade cannot change into the bright red color when initially wielded, it can only become bright red during battle.



Secondly, this sword can only be accessed by Demon Slayers who have activated their Demon Slayer Mark. Hence, it is extremely difficult to attain this color without being in an intense battle or a life-threatening situation.


There are 3 known ways to turn a Nichirin Sword into Bright Red Color. The first is striking two swords against each other with such force that the friction compels the swords to change their colors. The second way is gripping the sword so hard that the temperature of the sword rises. And the last one is through Nezuko's Blood Demon Art.

A notable effect of a Bright Red Nichirin Sword is its ability to impede or completely negate a Demon's ability to regenerate, as well as generate intense heat that can cause great pain and make Demons cough up blood. This is evident in instances where Demons like Hantengu and Muzan Kibutsuji take longer to heal from injuries that would typically be instantaneously healed.


Also, the Bright Red sword can permanently kill Demons that have been decapitated, as seen when Kokushibo, who had previously overcome this weakness, was unable to regenerate after being stabbed in a non-lethal area by a Bright Sed Nichirin sword and slowly crumbled away.
